With the expiry of the New START treaty between Russia and the US, CND is calling on the British government to stop sitting on the sidelines and push for an extentson to the treaty ahead of a new arms control agreement.

To get this back on track, we need global public pressure to push for interim measures that could be agreed between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin today! This could involve a one-year moratorium on exceeding New START caps, the resumption of inspections, and a moratorium on deploying new Anti-Ballistic Missile systems like Trump’s Golden Dome. A new treaty is possible if pressure is put on these governments to come to an agreement, which will build momentum to further nuclear arms control agreements involving more nuclear powers. RAF Menwith Hill US base US National Security Agency communications interception base covertly monitoring electronic traffic. Downlink station for satellite data as part of the US Missile Defence system. 3. RAF Fylingdales radar station Tracks and targets missiles for the UK and US governments. Part of the US Space Surveillance Network. 4. RAF Digby Surveillance hub for US drone programme. 5. RAF Feltwell Provides housing for US personnel based at Lakenheath. 6. RAF Lakenheath US Air Force base hosted US free-fall nuclear bombs circa 1954-2008. Currently home to F-35 and F-15 fighter aircraft. The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Stop the War Coalition utterly condemn US President Donald Trump's latest threats of illegal military aggression against Iran. Any military assault on Iran could trigger an absolutely catastrophic war across the Middle East.  The US has deployed a massive military force to the region, including the nuclear-powered USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, F-35 fighter jets and B-52 nuclear-capable bombers. Britain has also sent Typhoon jets to Al Udeid base in Qatar. Trump has stated “Like with Venezuela”, the US is “ready, willing, and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary.” It is clear that Trump is seeking regime change in Iran through more brutal military attacks and economic coercion. These threats to Iran must be stopped. We all remember the horror of the US-led illegal war on Iraq - a country half the size of Iran - in which over half a million people were slaughtered and millions displaced. We call on the British government to rule out any military involvement in an attack on Iran and to deny the US permission to use the Diego Garcia base on the Chagos Islands. If the US goes ahead with illegal military aggression, CND and Stop the War urge all those who oppose this to join an emergency protest at Downing Street. If this happens, we will make a further announcement on the timing of the protest.

It's shocking the number of US military bases in Britain. These bases put Britain on the frontline in Trump's reckless global wars. It's time to shut down US bases and kick out Trump's nuclear weapons. Britain needs an independent foreign policy without nuclear weapons!
