Since we last shared an update on bargaining, we’ve received additional information about management salaries at Rewire.

The TLDR: The pay discrepancy between management and union members is deeply unsettling.

Listen to AFGE President Everett Kelley:

Federal workers aren’t pawns in political games—they inspect our food, care for veterans, conduct research that keeps workers safe and so much more. They make America run.

Everyone’s health insurance premiums could skyrocket and millions could lose their health care.

Congress must permanently extend the ACA’s tax credits. Nobody can afford this health care crisis, and time is running out.
These people have found their health care at the center of a shutdown showdown
Small business owners, self-employed people and early retirees are among the 24 million Americans who could lose the tax credit

ever since microsoft's layoffs in early july, the two zenimax unions have been fighting for impacted employees following the cancellation of the elder scrolls online studio's unannounced mmo. they've won laid-off workers more time (aka more pay), better severance, recall rights, and saved some jobs
"We were able to extend out [laid-off workers] impacted period, because their timers didn't even start until we signed the memorandum of understanding [about the layoffs],” Alyssa Gobelle, senior motion graphics artist and Zenimax Online Studios union bargaining committee member, told Aftermath. “Even their 60 days of continued employment and pending termination notices didn't happen until that ink was signed. So instead of starting July 2, that started mid-August, so that essentially bought them a lot more weeks of pay and healthcare security while we figured this out. That's sort of a soft win in a way, because obviously [it's] not in the contract, but it was an impact of us being able to bargain. We were able to buy them more time."

As a result, ZOS union members who lost their jobs in July technically remain employed until October. The ZOS union also squeezed an additional four weeks minimum severance out of Microsoft, bringing the total up to eight weeks across the board. On top of all that, the union also secured 18 months of recall rights for everyone on the canceled Zenimax MMO that lost their jobs, meaning that if there’s a relevant job opening at Zenimax Online Studios, there’s now a chance that workers who’ve been let go will get their old jobs back – as opposed to the company throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

like the overwatch and world of warcraft teams before them, over 450 diablo devs have voted to unionize. last year's mass microsoft layoffs convinced them to start organizing, but this year's kicked things into high gear
“I was a long-term remote employee living in New York, and I just happened to be on campus the week CWA was there,” Skye Hoefling, senior software engineer II and fellow Diablo union OG, told Aftermath. “The next week, the layoffs happened. The person I was moving in with worked on Battle.net, and they lost their job. ... That really lit a fire for me of 'We should do something.'”

More rounds of layoffs, regrettably, followed in 2024 and 2025, bringing the tally up to over 3,000 across Microsoft’s gaming division since the beginning of 2024. July’s layoffs, especially, sealed the deal for some Diablo team members.

"[Recent layoffs] did actually galvanize a lot of people,” said Yeo. “There are some people that we had been speaking to that were very on the fence about it, and that was sort of a catalyst for them – or I guess the last straw. It feels like every time it happens, the noose tightens a little more for anybody left behind.”

with each successive round of layoffs and buyouts, IGN staff have found themselves increasingly overworked. so now, in an effort to get laid-off colleagues rehired, they’ve resolved to do their fair share — and no more
"Every time [layoffs] happen, [management] says we're going to do less,” Tyler Robertson, IGN social media coordinator and union secretary, told Aftermath. “That never actually happens. We always do the same amount of work, just with less people. If we stop that from happening this time and really say we are not picking up the slack that you have created, hopefully that convinces them that, yeah, we did actually need those people, and we do need those jobs."

IGN’s union has negotiated a six-month recall list, which stipulates that if IGN wants to fill any eliminated roles within the next six months, it must rehire those it laid off. In an ideal world, those who want to return to the forcibly opened arms of the Imagine Games Network will be able to do so, and in cases where they’ve moved on, roles will be backfilled. Either way, employees would get to work normal hours and do their actual jobs not just for the next six months, but indefinitely
