I guess the jig is up for the PM at Google who tried forcing VirusTotal subscribers to "upgrade" to Google Threat Intelligence. Night of long knives over in Mountain View?

L-O-L. US Park Police could not stop a car that fled from a traffic stop in Chevy Chase and _took the Bay Bridge_. I assume this means that the helicopter tracked it until it got low on fuel and that no local PD in Maryland wanted to assist USPP.

U.S. Park Police ended a lengthy police chase in Maryland for a driver they had tried to pull over for a traffic stop in D.C. on Tuesday evening, according to f

Sinks should not be in cabinets. Sinks should have four feet of clearance around them. Sinks should come with a waterproof 4” memory foam pad to go around them on the floor. All faucet connections should have three inches of clearance and flanges around their hex nuts so your pliers don’t slip.

I grew up in Iowa with a 5 cent aluminum can deposit. It was fine?

I've received lobbying spam suggesting that this bill will somehow bring about the apocalypse in DC. I very much doubt it.

There are many factors that impact the price of a beverage. There is no evidence that a bottle bill is one of them in any state or other country.

Get more bottle bill facts, like how it is expected to exponentially improve DC's recycling rate, here: brianneknadeau.com/bottle-bill/
Graphic that reads "Bottle Bill Facts. How will this legislation impact the price of beverages?

Experience in other states shows that manufacturers and distributors do not increase the price on their product when a bottle bill is implemented.

In fact, container redemption programs put money back into our local communities through employment opportunities as "canners," at grocers and redemption centers."

Just got off a Zoom call for parents of middle school debate team kids. Multiple questions about how many points need to be earned to be eligible for middle school honors society (so they can get into magnet high school).

I told my daughter it’s easier to be the smartest than to play such games.

I’ve somehow gotten into geology (or, more likely, I’ve gotten into John McPhee). After dinner tonight with a former colleague where we debated whether infosec is improving (I said yes, he said no), it occurs to me geology is the right metaphor. The answer is yes, inexorably, but slowly.

Average "full stack" (i.e., web) developers are totally fucked, though. Undifferentiated JS boilerplate is not worth a quarter mil annual total comp.

At risk of re-learning the bitter lesson, I'm also doubtful that general purpose agents will succeed at software engineering. CC knows everything but makes my ADD brain seem disciplined and focused. It's not so much hallucination as disassociation.
codeslack.bsky.social
But I also have a long backlog of ideas, and CC has really been able to get them off the ground. It can get started, but it then collapses. I have tried a variety of recommendations. My conclusion is that it can't yet write the kind of code I need to write.
codeslack.bsky.social
I don't know whether my opinion has shifted so much as been refined. CC has been excellent at debugging and integrating more dev tools (I hate setting up tools). It's helped me conduct research and it's uncovered new info for me there that mere googling hasn't.
