Most of the Trump administration isn't smart enough to understand how dangerous these tariffs are, but Bessent has no excuse. He should answer for these policies so he has no plausible deniability when we go into a massive recession if not worse.

Trump honestly isn't smart enough to know what he's done. But enablers like Bessent know how dangerous this is and don't care because they want the proximity to power. When we end up with a massive global recession his fingerprints are all over this.

That's exactly what happened when they put tariffs on washing machines, the imported machines increased in price and the domestic machines increased in price as well. Lose-lose for consumers

We should avoid the word 'tariff' since Trump has convinced much of his base that this is paid by the exporting country. These are taxes on US companies and consumers, period.

You live in a country where large numbers of people voted for him "because gas prices were cheaper under Trump" and large numbers didn't vote "because there is not much difference between Harris and Trump." You can't cure that level of stupid.

Honestly, the fact that they've hired so many incompetent loyalists and they're so unfocused on so many things (Greenland, etc) is the only saving grace. If we had competent focused authoritarians we'd be screwed.
