My secret media review dump
Listened to every episode. Was a great ride

While I do find these narrative problems annoying, I don't thing it ruins the experience for me and I would still recommend "Sorry We're Closed". I think there is truly something here for anyone

That being said, I do feel like the story wrapped up too quickly. I was a bit taken aback when chacter subplots tended to wrap up faster than I would have liked. A lot of the time I found myself picking 1 wrong option and being locked out of an ending.

The first person gameplay instantly reminds me of Killer7. The way the enemies have easy to read weak spots as they walk toward you was almost nostalgic. Also, the puzzle solving is absolutely fantastic. while I wont go into spoilers, nothing felt impossible or required a guide.

This review was a long time coming. SWC is a fantastic experience combining first person shooter gameplay with isometric camera angles all into a horror narrative driven game that will make you question right from wrong with every dialogue option.

It's a curious case of hope and dread. Maybe everything will be okay. And maybe it won't.

Whether this game interests you for the story, the artstyle, the gameplay, or the setting, I honestly can't recommend this game enough. I can confidently say that Crow Country is one of my new all time favorites of the survival horror genre and a must play to fans of the genre.

Difficulty wise, I could also see some people having issue with how easy the game can be. This didn't bother me personally as I enjoyed the laid back experience. For this reason I actually think Crow Country is a fantastic game to people who want to try out the genre for the first time.

Honestly, the only complaint I have with Crow Country is that it's a little too short. I finished the entire game with all secrets in about 10 hours and was left wanting more so bad that I immediately started and finished a second playthrough. NG+ does have it's benefits to make it worth the time.

As you explore Crow Country and the story begins to open up, more questions rise and less get answered. What are the guests? Why did the owner dissappear? Who is Mara? Thankfully, this game nails the twists and turns of each narrative beat perfectly. This was the best part of the game for me.
January 23, 2025 at 3:31 AM
Throughout the game, Mara will fight her way through a horde of what the story refers to as "guests" which serve as your standard infected creatures that we are used to seeing in this genre. However, don't be fooled as there is a lot that differentiates them from the trope we see all too often.

The artstyle of this game is one of my favorite things about it and you'll notice it immediately as it's so unique. It's like if you combined RE1 with FF7 and added some unique ingredient to the formula. The genre of survival horror is perfect for this kind of creativity.

You, Mara Forest, are an agent sent out to find the missing owner of an abandoned theme park named "Crow Country" apon request of his daughter. That's basically all you get before your gameplay starts in front of the park with a pistol in hand.

To address the elephant in the room, I do think you need at least a base knowledge of the game to enjoy this manga. Honestly, that and it's dark subject matter are the only reasons I couldn't recommend reading it. An absolute blast from start to finish.

Agaki himself almost takes the role of the villain due to his desire to experience death by stakes and his willingness to drag his opponents down with him. After all, if his life is the only one on the line then it isn't equal odds. Watching the fear crawl it's way through his rivals never gets old.
January 16, 2025 at 2:02 AM
There really is no words to describe this arc. This duel lasts twice as long as the rest of the series. You can read multiple chapters without a single tile being places yet the suspense never leaves the air. At some points you almost feel bad for Washizu due to how calculating Akagi can be.
January 16, 2025 at 1:55 AM
However, it's peak is in it's final arc where Akagi faces off against one of Japan's richest and evilest men: Iwao Washizu. This is a massive 6 game battle where you watch Akagi break this man through 20 real life years of monthly chapter releases. 20 years. It's a collosal battle unlike any other.
January 16, 2025 at 1:51 AM
Only playing for the thrill of the risk, Akagi plays yakuza after yakuza in high stakes Mahjong games for millions of yen that essentially spells death for the loser. You watch him go from playing his first game to becoming a master all while dismantling his greedy opponents.
January 16, 2025 at 1:42 AM
If you had the devine power of infinite luck and skill at something I bet it wouldn't be a Japanese tile game. Akagi dares to ask a bold question in "but what if you did, though?" Written in 1991 by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, he tells the tale of a young man named Akagi and his depths into the underworld.

Overall, Hollowbody is a short game to scratch a very specific itch that brings it's own spin to the formula. If you are a fan of early 2000s survival horror then you could do a whole lot worse than this.

Gameplay wise, the combat and exploration feels right at home with it's inspiration. The classic undead and locked doors kinda game where sometimes avoiding conflict is better than spending your resources. The puzzles, while fun, tended to involve a little too much backtracking at times.
January 15, 2025 at 10:08 AM
The setting is a tech-noir style future that carries sins in the form of an abandoned British city that is walled off to the outside world. A city we will explore all game. While the atmosphere and premise is interesting, I found the story very lackluster and the characters uninteresting.
