also i have NOT played higurashi beforehand, i've heard higu connects to umineko in subtle but significant ways but i'm honestly more interested in umineko right now

it IS also just an issue of how much screenspace is taken up by the UI - maimai DX most especially since theres NO space for any backgrounds or other defining features for each version on the song select screen. its SO hard for me to feel the difference between each version since original DX there

this is just a problem with performai as a whole. the UIs are too sterile and uniform and they FUNCTION but they dont really feel fantastic or groundbreaking to use. drives me insane how the UI just feels the EXACT same for every single version. iidx UIs feel familiar but refreshing every version!!!

zero clue. cost saving or something? at the very least for the most part if you order a megarex DL card album online RIGHT when it releases, the first press comes with a pressed CD but its still pretty disappointing to have it be a DL card by default...

big issue is The Language Barrier especially with how 90s JP PC games are majority visual novels and adjacent but i guess its a good motivator to sit my ass down and actually learn japanese

the game is rushed and it clearly shows in its length and lower budget but the developers poured just as much love into the game as the first three. ending act spared no expense and is genuinely outstanding. never forgetting this franchise as long as i live

already on warrior difficulty ive simultaneously fallen in love with the game completely and grew an unfathomable hatred for it and i think thats really beautiful this game is so perfectly imperfect and i wouldn't want it any other way even though the bosses make me want to pull my hair out
