I guess not a notch the same way spinosaurs have it, but a lot of ceratopsians have some “crook” in their upper beak.

It has that same sort of sneering shape as the tip of the JP Spino’s snout, especially when people exaggerate the keratin, so it was a good jumping-off point.

It helps that some ceratopsians have the notch too, much easier to blend & integrate the Spino.

Apologies for the late reply. Yes, the plan is to upload more JP art here, sharing my older stuff every now and then. Though admittedly it’s slipped my mind, so I appreciate the reminder!

And, if anybody wanted this to be a bit more overtly hybridized or amalgamated, I do have these two from a while back that really lean into the crocodile angle:

With the real design, it’s very much not my cup of tea. Feels very in line with the art direction of the JW movies and very far from that of the first 3 films. It follows the broad strokes of Spinosaurus without doing much else. Feels a bit too much like a Primeval design for me.

Really this was about making a JP (rather than JW) styled animal, that built off the actual animal to come up with a neat-looking design. I even leaned into the marine/semi-aquatic lifestyle and moved the nostrils to the top of the head, somewhat like a blowhole.

I went a bit less “reject” with this one, but still kept the broad strokes (short neck, more accurate, gnarly look). I borrowed a lot from the textures of JP3’s Spino while still retaining some croc and made the skull more like Spinosaurus to highlight its distinctive look.

I think the new look is nice overall. I guess it’s lipped (though it doesn’t look it), don’t love the random osteoderms along the back, colors are OK, huge fan of the top lobe of the caudal fin just being a giant shark dorsal fin. Not sure if I like it more or less than JW’s yet.

I made this partly for the joke and partly because I don’t have strong feelings towards it. Looks OK from what we’ve seen (if not absolutely colossal omg), but we haven’t seen much so I mostly went off merch. Not the best to work from, but it’s what I have.
