Writer living in Los Angeles. Nerd for analog tech, vintage games, and anything sci-fi and horror-related. My first novel, POLYBIUS, is available now from Gallery Books.
I actually haven't lived in that area! I've been in LA for about 16 years. I've spent a lot of time in / around there, tho, & tried to be accurate in building the story's time & place. Also that's very cool re the school library; we're big school & public library users in our family.

It did! The town's an amalgam of several spots in Sonoma and Marin that I love to visit - Bodega Bay, Sebastopol, Point Reyes Station, Guerneville. One of my favorite movies, The Fog, shot around those areas, and I was aiming for a similar chilly vibe.

Obvs I'm biased when it comes to Polybius so I'll leave that one out, but I can 100% vouch for Horror Movie. Great book.

Love the Anton LeVay quote used at the beginning of THE CAR:

"Oh great brothers of the night, who rideth upon the hot winds of Hell, who dwelleth in the devil's lair; Move and appear!"

Worth noting it was re-written from the original text for, I assume, readability's sake. All the same, goes hard.

...his latest, CLOUD, an almost Coen Bros-like black comedy about the downward spiral of an internet reseller / rise of a master criminal.

There are lots of frustrating, difficult aspects to life in LA; there's also no other place in the world quite like it.

I was watching Irreversible at a theater in Philly. An elderly man got up as *that* scene started & fell over in the aisle as he was trying to leave. Another guest & I helped him to the lobby. I went back in shortly after, but never revisited the film, so I've never seen its most notorious sequence.
