A "suave, Francophile food-and-wine know-it-all" and yellow dog Democrat who would rather be back home in Southern California.

In other news, this here grilled D'Artagnan bone-in Angus ribeye was mighty good for dinner tonight. The creamers roasted with shallots and morels weren't bad either.

Remembering Mom as she would no doubt like to be remembered. (Maybe next year I'll dig up the photo of her in the chorus line for "Gold Diggers of 1937," along with Jane Wyman and Carole Landis.)

I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but this is the dessert of my dreams -- polenta, olive oil, and almond cake with caramelized blood oranges, at the River Cafe in London.

It was published in 2019, but this seems like it might be an interesting book to read today.

An old friend and mentor/inspiration just sent me this passage as a Happy New Year message. @seeshespeak.bsky.social will perhaps recognize the source.

Quite chuffed to discover that the little poetry magazine I co-founded with Michael C. Ford and the late Bill Yaryan back in the 1970s is apparently considered valuable in some quarters today.
