History has been incredibly kind to the fomentors of moral panics. No one paid a price for the Satanic Panic of the 80s--Janet Reno sent innocent people to jail in Miami and went on to be atty general; Oprah became a billionaire. Fomenting moral panics is incredibly lucrative and mostly risk-free
