I feel like that's really the only way to make something function for people who don't know/don't want to learn, the "behind the scenes". And even those I have had to help people with in past tech support jobs.

I'm not sure what you mean... these exist for non-technical people in many different forms, from several different companies. Most of the project mgmt tools I've seen involve these. They are created from SaaS, so they don't look like an application... but are in fact doing the same thing.

Also... pretty sure it applies to people with different abilities...
