Carlotta Stewart Lai (1881-1952) was an educator in Hawaii, serving for four decades. She was Honolulu’s first African American school principal, achieving success during a time of limited opportunities for Black Americans both mainland & in Hawaii (where they were only 0.2% of the population).

In remembrance of Ray Kaplan, an engineer employed at the Voice of America network. He was one of the countless victims of Joseph McCarthy's red scare. After losing his career from a baseless accusation by McCarthy claiming he was a communist, he took his own life under pressure.
