I read this yesterday and it is absolutely wonderful. It is tightly and thoughtfully written. Hipólita, as usual, knocked it out of the park.
Screenshot from Lex Ecclesiastica: I loathe the term but I’ll say it: this is a story game. I use this term in opposition to a trad game, the kind where you count ammo, read through equipment cost tables and have things like “chance to hit” and damage rolls. If that’s the kind of game you want, the Blood of Martyrs book for the Dark Heresy roleplaying game has got you covered. I think it’s a fantastic game, but that game already exists so I’m writing a game that doesn’t. A game where, yes, we roll dice to fill demons full of bolter ammo and generally do Cool Sister Shit, but cares more about the characters themselves and who they are rather than what they do. Mechanically, this uses the Resistance Toolbox, which you might know from games like Spire: The City Must Fall and Heart: The City Beneath. It’s very much a story game, but one that, I think, feels familiar if you’re used to dungeon delving games. You also roll a ton of dice compared to other games in the category. In this game, you advance your character not by killing things but by fulfilling certain story beats related to the various internal forces pulling at a Sister’s heart.

I read Deviant: The Renegade (for realsies) this week and reread Trinity and I think Onyx Path's house style is a bit offputting. Deviant's a thick read and is, pretty much, a Superhero TTRPG. Superhero TTRPGs, in my opinion, have cracked the code on how to make their power creation systems readable

I'm coming off a "temporary" ""vacation"" because of my strong opinions on a certain country's armed forces, so when the first thing I see in my Discover tab is Robert Evans doing troop defense, I can only smile. I am vindicated every second of every day.

United Nuclear Cadmium Sulfide Doris Spates was a baby when her father died inexplicably in 1955. She has watched four siblings die of cancer, and she survived cervical cancer. After learning that the Army conducted secret chemical testing in her impoverished St. Louis neighborhood at the height of the Cold War, she wonders if her own government is to blame. In the mid-1950s, and again a decade later, the Army used motorized blowers atop a low-income housing high-rise, at schools and from the backs of station wagons to send a potentially dangerous compound into the already-hazy air in predominantly black areas of St. Louis. Local officials were told at the time that the government was testing a smoke screen that could shield St. Louis from aerial observation in case the Russians attacked. But in 1994, the government said the tests were part of a biological weapons program and St. Louis was chosen because it bore some resemblance to Russian cities that the U.S. might attack. The material being sprayed was zinc cadmium sulfide, a fine fluorescent powder.
