Day 7: Beloved Community fosters EMPATHY and COMPASSION for others. Some call this emotional listening or listening “with the heart.” Key practices to show empathy are to really give your attention and to validate others feelings. Credit: adapted from UMC’s Religion & Race, written by Dr. A. Wright

#6: Beloved Community AFFIRMS DIFFERENCES and seeks to understand and validate the diverse journeys we’ve each had. Some say "a stranger's a friend we haven’t met yet." Beloved community requires more - folks must be invested in the welfare & voice of all others. Credit: adapted UMC Religion & Race

#5: Beloved Community puts in the effort to foster MUTUAL RESPECT & VALIDATION of EACH OTHER. Believing that every person has intrinsic value, we must recognize we’re all in this together and it is achievable to share in a way that honors all. Credit: adapted from UMC Religion & Race, Dr. A.Wright

#4: Beloved Community requires PERSONAL AUTHENTICITY and INTEGRITY. In other words, we must try LIVING truthfully – aligning our actions with our inner beliefs. This may require many of us to take stock of who we really are. Credit: adapted from UMC’s Comm on Religion & Race, by Dr. Arthuree Wright

#3 In beloved community we must RECOGNIZE & HONOR the IMAGE of GOD in EVERY PERSON. Each of us is part of the whole & no one’s ideas can change that. The more we look & listen with that agape love, the more we'll find Christ in others and ourselves. Credit: adapted, GCORR by Dr. Arthuree Wright

It's Day 2! Today’s focus is INCLUDING EVERYBODY! Many call this “radical hospitality.” Rev MLK said “No one is free, until we are all free.” We can extrapolate this to say “We aren't fed, until we're all fed” or even “None of us has dignity, until we all have dignity.” adapted fr Dr Arthuree Wright

Friends, in honor of Rev. MLK Day and the building of beloved community, this song's plea is a good reminder. Also, recall that Mahalia Jackson contributed to the Civil Rights movement. Enjoy! youtu.be/qCjf5Qab53U?...

Today we begin a series about building the beloved community which is built on a bedrock of AGAPE LOVE, the purest unconditional love that we can have for each other. Agape allows us to seek justice, dignity, and equity for all of us. We can work to develop our AGAPE love and see others better.
