I will never be a stamp collector, but this latest series hits me right in the nostalgia. All five of these shows and films are ones I distinctly remember from my childhood.

Day 12: From Niigata to Kanazawa. I had a brain fart and so we just missed our original Shinkansen but luckily were allowed to switch to the next one and we still made our connection. After tonjiru and onigiri dinner I made the mistake of going to Family Mart and walked out with second dinner.

Day 11 part 2: the afternoon is a blur (probably spent in an arcade), but had a long-awaited Mos burger for lunch and hegi soba for dinner.

Day 11 part 1: Exploring Niigata. We wandered the old part of Furumachidori, filled with tea houses and bars. Didn’t spot any geisha at this hour, but it was cool to see how everything got packed into the spaces between alleys.

Day 10 part 2: Dinner in Niigata was chuuka soba, with lots of char siu for me and a mountain of bean sprouts for dad. The noodles were delicious, as were the gyoza.

Day 10 part 1: On the train to Niigata it was clear that we were moving away from the front of blossoming sakura. Niigata was a bit congested and smoggy, but it was also neat in its own way.

Day 9 part 6: Outside the restaurant we could hear music, and it was this group of people playing the taiko and shakihachi and balancing this huge lantern pole. They were taking turns, and it think it was some kind of ceremony done by the staff at the department store.

Day 9 part 3: Dinner was a 7 course omakase at Mugendō. Every course was absolutely stunning, and so I will let the photos speak for themselves.

Day 9 part 2: Had a fantastic sushi lunch, and won a cute Anya figurine in a crane game.

Day 9 part 1: Got on the train to Oga, saw very little, and got on the train back. If the weather had been better we might have gone around to Godzilla Rock to try and see across to North Korea, but as it was this was just a random excursion.
