I rewatched the first this year. Disliked it back 2006, but ended up loving it 20ish years later for the vibes alone.

I know. I just know around myself. People weren't familiar with superfriends. There's multiple degrees of separation. Like people will impersonate Schwarzenegger saying "Get to the chopper!"
Not because they're familiar with Predator but because "Get to the chopper" is what impersonators say.

My local indie video chain (three locations in a small cluster of towns) closed it's last location last summer.
The owner was retiring. Still had steady business.
We only had a blockbuster for like 4 or 5 years in the early 2000s.
