Males are aggressive, flying around their territory and smacking into other pollinators large and small. They look like drunken linebackers. I have seen them hit big carpenter bees - then zoom off to smack little sweat bees!

The females scrap fuzz from plants, forming a small mass in their abdomen. They choose a nest cavity for the egg that they put pollen and nectar in so the larva has food, then they add the fuzzy plant material.
