Jan. 6, 2021: Sherrod leaving for D.C. at 5:09 a.m. No amount of presidential pardons & shameful attempts to rewrite history will change what I remember about the violence on our Capitol that day. For nearly 45 minutes, we could not determine Sherrod’s whereabouts, or whether he was even alive.

View on my last visit to Sherrod’s Senate office in Washington. So much change was coming for our country. But I heard our grandchildren’s laughter nearby and felt the hope in that. Life is never one thing.
We are in this together, friends & kind strangers. Knowing that gives me so much strength.

Long before dawn, a single home on the other side of the woods mirrors the light in ours. I’ve never met who lives there, and I don’t know how they spend their days. I just know their day begins like mine, early in the dark quiet. Camaraderie from afar.
