The real shame was how they flattened Elizabeth's character - a lot of the whimsy comes from the increasingly ridiculous things she's meant to have done in life, yet still no one says "were you a spy?", and a lot of the pathos from how her secrecy keeps her hiding Stephen's condition from friends.
