My #culturenight contribution this year - a portrait painting marathon - got on the six o'clock news. Good gymnastics for a painter, an opportunity to meet lots of people, involve them in what I do and give back to my local community.

Here are the paintings from my Culture Night Portrait Marathon at Arklow Arts Centre last Friday. In twelve hours I painted 18 portraits in oils, live streaming the entire process. Thanks to all my sitters, to all who watched in person and online, and Wicklow Arts Office who funded the event!

An old life drawing from a session in the @rha-arts.bsky.social studios. I never photographed this and don't remember who I gave it to (probably on the day of the life drawing session), but it went to auction a while ago and so I found the image online.

Here's a recently completed portrait painted from life. Painting from life isn't always easy and it wasn't easy to please the sitter on this but I think it's a damn good portrait. I'm happy with it.

I'll be doing another portrait marathon for #culturenight next September 19th at Arklow Arts Centre. I'll do 18 portraits in 12 hours, live-streamed, creating an impromptu exhibition, with the portraits given to the sitters afterwards. Bookings will open in early August.

Staying at Lough Bishop House I came across two of my paintings including my 'Bread' from 2017 in the dining room. Lovely to meet again the owners and avid art collectors Helen and Christopher Kelly. I took the 'Grapes' painting back for varnishing.
