Old(ish) lib widower/proud dad. ❤️ my politics with a punk shell & a chewy middle. Books/movies I loved should’ve prepared me better for an apocalyptic fight w/fascists. Would def whack baby Hitler & Drumpf. 🇺🇦 🇺🇸 San Diego kid now in PNW Aztecs/Pads always
It’s not an easy story to read or watch, but SK’s vision of a possible future where America was headed feels incredibly real…now. Actually more so now than when I read it originally in the early 80’s.

Read it the 1st time in junior high and it has stuck with me ever since. And as much as I wanted to see a cinematic version of it I honestly did not think someone could take that story to Hollywood suits and get the ok. It took a very long (walk) time but, damn, I’m glad they were patient.

Pretty sure Mike Johnson is clinically deaf, dumb and blind.

You know the scenes in The Great Escape where the prisoners are dropping the dirt from the tunnels through their pant legs? If someone could design some caltrops that protesters could casually drop in a similar way in front of the stormtroopers vehicles I think that would be just lovely.

Just wanted to add a thank you to your reply as many authors don’t stoop to replying to readers

I’m a little drunk right now (hanging with an elder) but I’m enjoying the beginning. I just finished Symbiote. Have you checked that out?
Will definitely give your work my word of mouth. I feel bad that I have to read the book through the library but I’m a “poor”.

Watching it a few times and it certainly looks like a Nazi salute from the get go

Yeah, and it’s really soured me on his films (I seem to give a pass to Jaws & Close Encounters)

Thank you for that piece. I fell in love with Kolchak as a kid watching it on late night San Diego tv late 70s/early 80s(?) and couldn’t get enough of it. Going to have to check the library for the novels.

Have you read Symbiote by Michael Nayak? It’s a bit like The Thing meets The Pineapple Express.
