I hear so much about IKEA stores. It would be fun to check one out some time. I have never been to one.

Do you have the ground (earth) wire hooked up properly?
Also, are you using shielded cables? If not, they will pick up noise.

That's what thrift stores are for! I found these cool lamps last summer. They called out to me: Take us home, we're cool!! I made room for them in my Man Cave. Tonight I bought some red and green bulbs for Christmas time. :)
