College of the Resurrection

We train women and men to serve as priests in the Church of England, to proclaim the Good News of Christ and celebrate the sacraments. We share our grounds and our prayers with the monks of the Community of the Resurrection.

Earlier today staff and students marked Armistice Day by pausing for a short act of remembrance at 11, praying for the peace of the world and for the repose of the souls of all those of this and every nation killed in armed conflict.

The students organised an excellent Bonfire Night celebration!

Every week, the brethren of the Community have a gardening afternoon, and students and others are welcome to join. Here’s a mixture of ordinands and monks enjoying the fresh air and honest toil that help keep our grounds beautiful.

On Thursday afternoons instead of evening prayer with the Brethren of CR, there is a student led service, which can take any form they choose. Tonight we had a beautiful time of prayer after the customs of Taizé.

Happy feast of Simon and Jude! This is the college’s Foundation Day, so a special occasion for us. We like to think that the most obscure of the apostles are perfect patrons for a college that’s always focussed on producing priests who serve parish and people.

We are sad to learn of the death of Reverend Canon Stephen Ferns, former Senior Chaplain to the Bishop of Chichester and Canon Treasurer of Chichester Cathedral.

In 2023, Fr Stephen led the College Retreat and gave the 2024 Holy Week Lectures at Mirfield, which will be long remembered.

May 29, 2025 at 6:48 AM
Earlier today some members of the college joined CR for their Rogation Procession, with a litany and blessing of the orchard and the allotments. It’s been raining steadily ever since, but given the recent weather that’s something to give thanks for!

Before the retreat started, the kitchen treated us to home made jam doughnuts, still slightly warm, with our coffee. Some very happy staff and students here!

The College is delighted to welcome the Rev’d Canon Michael Wood as our retreat conductor. He has an extensive experience of urban parish ministry as well as various forms of chaplaincy and we look forward to talks drawing on his wisdom.

We are in silence til Thursday night.
