Hope everyone had a great Chrobin week! It was wonderful seeing everyone’s creations ^-^ I’m back for another #WipWednesday
Chest heaving, Chrom skids to a stop at the courtyard’s center and doubles over, clenching the fountain ledge. He tightens his grip—trying to quell his trembling—but instead of stilling him, fracture lines web through the polished stone. Chrom shakes out his hands, cursing under his breath. “H-hey!” Lissa calls after him, audibly winded. “Chrom, what gives? You can’t just go running off like that!”  He doesn’t answer. His breathing is still too jagged. He cups some of the fountain water and splashes his face, but it’s not cold enough to shock his thoughts into order. Damn Plegia and its persistent heat. “…Chrom?” All the irritation in Lissa’s voice falls away as she draws nearer. “Hey, a-are you okay? What happened in there?” “Is there anything that you need?” Emmeryn asks softly.  Chrom tries to make himself speak, but it’s like his throat has been plugged shut. He shakes his head without turning.  “Please, Chrom.” Her voice comes from just behind him, now—a warning before her fingers graze his shoulder, her touch light as a sunbeam. “Whatever this is, you needn’t bear it alone.”  Something inside him collapses.  “He’s marrying me off!” he says. “Father is marrying me off to one of the Plegian Princesses.”

She shrieks, kicking out on instinct, though cocooned as she is within her blankets, it does little to subdue the intruder. Fortunately, said intruder makes no move to attack. In fact, now that she’s conscious enough to take in her surroundings, she can’t help but notice that said intruder bears a startling resemblance to her soon-to-be husband. “Gods, Chrom!” Robin thunks back onto her pillows with a huff. “You scared me half to death.” Chrom smiles down at her sheepishly. He’s back-lit by a shaft of direct sunlight, his silhouette trimmed in gold, and Robin bemoans that despite him not having said a word yet, she can already feel herself forgiving him for the fright. “I’m sorry, my love. I didn’t mean to startle you. I just wanted to give you a kiss to start my day, but, well…” He gestures with his ducked head to the box still in his hands. Ah, right. The boxes. In anticipation of moving into Chrom’s royal chambers, Robin’s room has transformed into a puzzle of stacked crates over the last few days. Truthfully, it’s not much more cluttered than she usually keeps the space, but their bulkiness does make it harder to maneuver.

In the novels Sumia has lent her, love proclamations like the one she just made are usually met with a proposal or a passionate embrace. In the racier ones, sometimes the characters start going at it then and there. But as desperate as she is to cut to the part of this where they fling themselves at each other and become an inextricable muddle of limbs, Robin wouldn’t trade his sincere reaction for anything. “What, didn’t you hear me? Or do you just want me to say it again?” she teases, a grin splitting her face. “I said that I love you, Chrom. I always have. And I’ll repeat it as many times as you’d like.” “No, I—I heard you,” he stammers. His hands tighten at her waist, as if he’s afraid that she’ll slip through his fingers if he loosens them even a fraction. “But…what do you mean ‘always’?” “I mean always. As in from the very beginning.” The words feel fluttery leaving her throat—a caged bird free to take flight at long last. “It just took a remarkably long time for me to realize that I don’t have to keep fighting it.” Robin meets his gaze dead on, ignoring the creeping heat in her cheeks. Hope and wonder spark in Chrom’s eyes, the light of dawn glittering against them like the sun-spangled sea.

Even on horseback, it’s taken them several hours to reach it, and he has spent the entirety of the last one anxiously scanning the horizon. They race around another bend in the path, and a rocky silhouette punches into view. “Stop!” Chrom orders. Frederick brings their horse to an abrupt halt. From the gully before them, a stack of boulders juts into the cloud-swarmed sky, bearing an uncanny resemblance to a wyvern hatchling emerging from an egg. “Is this it?” Stahl calls out. Chrom nods, already swinging himself out of the saddle. “We’ll have to continue from here on foot.” “I do not care for this one bit,” Frederick mutters. He hasn’t budged from his seat atop the horse. Chrom ignores him. He rummages through the saddle bag, withdrawing the velvet pouch that was once home to his family ring. With any luck, it will hold something much more precious soon.

She thought she’d be able to pull it together for Chrom’s sake. Then the storm started; the very sky that Emmeryn plummeted through mourning her in torrents, the earth she’d bled upon now sodden with its grief. They’d fled into the midmire, only to have their escape route intercepted by flooding plains and an awaiting battalion. That was hours ago, and still Robin’s lungs shriek, each heartbeat a convulsion inside of her. A handicap when she can least afford it. She grits her teeth, forcing her legs to lift and fall, lift and fall. Lightning writhes across the sky in thorny brambles. “We’re—we’re almost there,” she pants. Every breath is a burden, but she gathers it fitfully to push a few more words out. “Just…a little bit…farther.” Chrom says nothing, his expression an unwavering grimace. Robin staggers beneath his weight as she struggles to keep them both upright. Crimson rivers slough down his arm, mingling with the muck at their feet. She thanks the gods that he’s still alive to bleed at all—the gash beside her collarbone a throbbing reminder of just how close they’d cut it.

New as the revelation of their shared feelings is, Robin still has to fight the urge to shyly skitter her gaze away. It’s worth maintaining eye contact, though, just for the way his mouth flips into a small smile. “Something the matter, Robin?”

Can’t believe A Heroes Journey just gave me Chrom and Robin reading a steamy romance story together in the Askr library 😳 I love that there’s a game mode that basically functions as a little blorbo date simulator

Adrenaline punches through her veins with every haphazard heartbeat. “What, don’t you recognize the symbols on my coat?” Robin snaps. “If you truly consider yourself Grima’s faithful, then show some deference!” At her feet, Chrom heaves in a sharp breath and nearly nicks his throat on her blade. Robin adjusts her grip on the sword pommel, trying desperately to steady her hands so she won’t hurt him more than she already has. She forbids herself from wondering what he’s thinking. “Is it true?” one of the Grimleal—a willowy woman—asks in a hushed tone. “The vizier spoke of a new hierophant, but—” A man steps forward from among them, his face cratered with age. His pupils are dark pinpricks against the wide whites of his eyes; their leery glare matched only by the eye embroidered on his skull cap. “A coat, sacred as its imagery is, is imitable,” he rasps. “If you are truly our hierophant, show us some proof of your identity that cannot be mimicked so easily.” Moment of truth… Nerves juddering, Robin catches the cuff of her glove between her teeth, tearing it from her hand. “Will this suffice?” she sneers.

Realized that I missed my three year anniversary of writing Chrobin fics, so have a preview of my wip for Chrobin week as a belated celebration 🥳

It’s horrible because Robin isn’t here to enjoy it with him—won’t be here for the next two weeks, on account of her tour of the countryside. He couldn’t in good conscience stop her from going; to know Robin is too precious a privilege for him to willfully deny his people of it. They deserve the chance to meet their future queen. But Chrom is not such a saint that he’s above sulking about having his fiancée whisked away just days after announcing their engagement. It’s also the longest they’ll have been apart since that first fateful encounter outside of Southtown. Frankly, Chrom’s not certain they’ve ever made it a whole day without seeing each other prior to now. And suddenly he’s expected to go two whole weeks without her? It’s going to be torture.

They’ve been mutually euphoric about having their friendship back, and with the air cleared, it’s only natural that the familiar touchiness that has always characterized their relationship should return too. Except, of course, for the fact that ‘normal’ for them has always verged on untoward by anyone else’s standards…and that it has been even worse now, given the long hours that they spend working late into the night on rescue plans. It’s as if the two of them are always inventing reasons to be nearer. Even now, the wagon bench they’re sharing is wide enough that Robin absolutely does not need to have her knee knocking against Chrom’s, their faces only inches apart when she turns back towards him. Never before has she so clearly understood why Frederick accused their behavior together of being unseemly. She knows she could ask Chrom to stop; one word from her is all it would take for him to back off. But the touchiness isn’t coming from him alone–both their hands are guilty of drifting and lingering. Time and time again, Robin finds herself gravitating nearer to him, a helpless comet drawn into the orbit of a dazzling sun. She is too weak to deny herself the comfort of his touch, nor the shy smiles he graces her with when she responds to it so warmly…even if she knows they both want it for all the wrong reasons. Both of us…, she thinks wonderingly, because Chrom said he was in love with me.
