I'm still in Act 1 so I don't want to jump the gun, but I definitely get those vibes from him. He loves talking at me about his woes in this really self-important way, that's for sure. At least Asterion is really funny about it.

Most people find that rewarding story begins at Heavensward. If you focus on the main quests (called the MSQ) without skips, it could be ~30h.
If you're looking for high end game raiding, depending on if you use skips or not, 50~200h lol.
Either way, it's very much worth the time investment.
