i already know my thoughts and feelings occur in seasonal cycles but the fact that i was posting about this exact topic a year ago TO THE DAY.... phenomenal
since finishing jodi dean's COMRADE i have been thinking nonstop about her idea of the comrade as a vessel that can easily accomodate identity differences without centering those differences or allowing them to sow division among political actors engaged in the same struggle
anyway as i've argued before any class politics worth its name is not going to treat identity as an obstacle to solidarity but as an asset. "we all suffer in different ways under capitalism and the only way to relieve your particular suffering is to help me relieve mine and vice versa."

people are saying "neighbors" all the time now to refer to people who are not their literal neighbors but with whom they feel connected across lines of identity and even nationality—a "neighbor" is someone you want to live alongside, regardless of superficial differences or distances

On January 4, 1908, a trial was held regarding whether John Svan, a socialist, and several other Finnish immigrants would become naturalized United States citizens or not, as the process only was for "whites" and "blacks" in general and district prosecutor John Sweet maintained that Finnish immigrants were Mongols.
