Darwin stuff, born, more Darwin stuff
Why? I'm guessing that's a rhetorical question.
Russia is not interested in peace. They're interested in subjugation.

indeed 😡

Which is why GDP can't be the only measure of wealth. Median income must be included. Look at Ireland, their GDP is very high but that's because it's distorted by corporate offshore parking, it doesn't translate to automatic personal wealth.

Exactly. The president and his team of a very successful financial services client of ours frequently take the subway from their main uptown offices downtown for events, dinners, all the fun stuff. Never a debate, it's just what you do. These guys have the bucks and chose this anyway.

ALL countries were colonized. Canada is in a period of reconciliation (but you conveniently don't mention that). As messy as reconciliation is, it is moving forward. Who else is reconciling with its colonization? Britain? France? China? How far do you want to just throw narratives without solutions?
December 19, 2025 at 8:27 PM
It's not a matter of questioning. You fail to articulate how exactly you intend for Canada to "pay" for colonizing countries it never colonized. It is a waste of my time discussing with someone who wants to name-call and not back up their arguments.

"Don't be so hostile. Don't throw up 100% tariffs for Chinese carmakers" Don't know what you're trying to say. I'm not being hostile, just bringing practicality into the discussion. Tariffs against Chinese cars are legacy policies for the already messy relationship we have with China and America.
December 18, 2025 at 8:36 PM
And therein lies the messiness. When was this colonization of country X? Was Canada actually part of it? Did Canada even exist? At what point are you planning to hold and not hold Canada responsible for policies it never created? You also never answered how this applies to China. And on and on.
December 18, 2025 at 8:33 PM
I don't totally ignore that legacy. But you vastly oversimplify what "dealing with it" actually means or even where the conversation would begin. How does your point even apply with trading with China? Canada never colonized India, both were created by colonization though differently.
December 18, 2025 at 8:11 PM
No it doesn't ignore anything. We can pontificate about the past 300 years all we want. But if you're proposing some giant reconciliation effort combing through granular who-was-the-badder-bad-guy-back-in-1830 buckle up for a fun ride. Dealing with India, China, South Africa all has baggage.

Making agreements with nations we don't fully agree with is not selling out. You may not have noticed but it's not a nice world out there with everyone being nice, Canadian-like people, wanting nice things for everyone. I don't expect to ever condone every deal, element, nor nation we work with 100%

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
...
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Yeah really - €10M? Really? I'll take two please.

"Legal challenges"? Those only apply to democracies. You guys should read the papers, America doesn't do democracy anymore.
December 4, 2025 at 9:44 PM
But but but ... your plan makes sense, and doesn't offer politically-sexy PR stunts. What could you be thinking?!
December 4, 2025 at 9:41 PM
yes seems to be a pretty big outage - I'm still getting locked out of a lot of service; thankfully we don't use Cloudflare for our platforms

The interesting 21st century spin on this is that Canadian efforts to diversify global trade back then was challenging. China wasn't nearly developed and ready enough, Europe, the rest of Asia, were all much more difficult to cultivate as deep trading partners. It's a different planet now, it's time
