This is where we could be going, but nah, folks gotta vote in the guy with severe narcissism and daddy issues to make just about everything in the world worse. My only hope is the pendulum can swing back hard enough to give us 10-20 solid years of progress after this. If not, ¡Viva la revolución!

If you have Fiber internet and don't like the ISP modem, you might be able to bypass it entirely. Check pon.wiki to see. I replaced my ATT modem with a MS-01 and WAS-110 stick from ECIN (see wiki).
