Small but fierce, the Belted Kingfisher has a rattling call that’s hard to miss. I watched for a while as he scanned the water below, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. No luck with in-flight shots, but he still looked every bit the skilled hunter between his dives.

I joined the North Georgia and Cobb photo clubs in Alabama last weekend to capture the incredible Sandhill Crane migration, where around 14,000 cranes spend the winter.
