Nonsense! Don’t believe the Palestinian propaganda. Israel provides hundreds of thousands of tons food aid to its enemies’ people. Hamas started the war. Hamas prolongs the war.

Nonsense. Capitalist economies, like China, have radically reduced absolute poverty.

Abolition acts in the U.K. parliament were passed by politicians who were primarily motivated by their Christian principles. Quakers and evangelicals also drove abolition in the American Congress. Liberal economics and industrial capitalism played a role but they were not mutually exclusive.

Israel is not starving Palestinian Arabs in Gaza. Israel is facilitating the delivery of hundreds of thousands of tons of food to Gaza. Hamas started the war. Hamas prolongs the war.

The abolitionist’s argument was that slavery contravened natural law and eternal law - not that slavery wasn’t nice. The moral imperative to abolish slavery was probably the primary driver of abolition.

Dehumanising language always precedes a genocide. Calling a living, growing, genetically distinct human being a “parasite” is hateful. 60 million pre-born children are murdered in abortions each year globally. In terms of sheer numbers that puts other genocides in the shade.

So older people have more right to live than young people? Is that your argument?
August 7, 2025 at 11:16 AM
In short, a pre-born person doesn’t have more rights than a born person. They have the same universal human rights, and laws that are appropriate to their age. A fetus or a seven year old child doesn’t have legal permission to vote or drive, for example. But they both have the right to life.

A pre-born girl (or boy) has the same inalienable right to life as a born girl (or boy). Every human being has an inalienable right to life. The right to life is the foundation of universal human rights.

I’m me, not “you people”. The birthrate of the US is a bit low, but pretty healthy compared to many other countries in which birthrates are now alarmingly low. Are you suggesting America should kill pre-born people because they will purportedly “tax the system”?
August 7, 2025 at 5:17 AM
What about protecting the lives of the 35 million pre-born girls killed in abortions each year?

Says the man who struggles to differentiate between a man and a woman.
August 7, 2025 at 4:51 AM
I presume the killers who performed the abortions left the state. That’s a good thing isn’t it?

Engels makes an interesting and challenging point, but as a worker I trade my labour for a salary. It is a free(ish) exchange because I’m able to change jobs, although changing jobs is difficult.

True, but true for all of the Western World.
August 7, 2025 at 4:33 AM
That’s too cynical. In reality the abolitionists were often driven by a morally principled opposition to slavery usually motivated by their Christian faith.
August 7, 2025 at 4:32 AM
May well be true, and probably regrettable, but call it what is. The American Empire, not “an international system of rules …”
