It was a big toy commercial...and it worked, because I had the toys and had a blast with them. It's not a great movie by any stretch, but it's fun if you jet let it be.

It's a bad Mission Impossible movie, but a great action movie.

The crazy thing is that his Riddler is actually more unnerving before he's in costume.

The real villain of this story is Jon Peters. Schumacher wanted to make a darker movie, but Jon Peters wanted it to be lighter. Schumacher chose to give Peters what he wanted twice in a row in the hopes of making a darker movie later, especially when Lost Boys and Flatliners got him the job.

Tommy Lee Jones should have been more of a straight man to Carrey. His performance needed a little more Harvey and just a little less Two-Face. Had it not been retroactively lumped in with Batman & Robin I think it'd be remembered a little more fondly.

Yes. I think this is a visually gorgeous movie (gaudy, yes, but still gorgeous), the score is an admirable (though certainly not superior) follow-up to Danny Elfman's score, and the Robin origin is handled fairly well. I think the biggest mistake is having Tommy Lee Jones match Jim Carrey's antics.

Jim Carrey's camp was fine, but Jones should have been more of a straight man to Carrey's antics rather than a participant.

From my understanding Joel thought that if he made it a little lighter like Jon Peters requested that he would be able to do the darker sequel he wanted...but then Peters demanded Batman & Robin be a toy commercial, so Joel tried to appease him to make the case for his darker sequel.
