totally get it! im just jaded and tired is all. they made us all make chatgpt accounts at my job like a month ago and ive definitely just internalized and accepted this is just how the world is going to be lol

it makes it impossible to have a meaningful conversation about what's in the actual video game when a sizable group of people go online and say they think the writing is shit, for example, but never actually played the game and are just playing their desired role in the surrounding social politics

but yeah, again really my bone to pick is less about having hangups like this (which are fair) and more about saying The Game is Bad Because [some argument about the game itself] when really you just don't like some other thing. it's a valid hangup but has nothing to do with the actual game

i do think that i generally want to continue playing video games moving forward, and i think that realistically if it's not true now it will be true within 5 years that all games are developed using some form of AI and it's just a matter of how well they conceal it

hiya! im aware, and you can dislike me for this, i just honestly don't care enough. imo the war is over and all i can ask is that devs make some demonstrated effort to ensure they're not stealing others' work

shoutouts also go out to I Love My Computer by Ninajirachi, which i tried to listen to when it came out, strongly disliked it, then tried again like a week or two ago and it clicked. its great stuff

I only listened to Frailty recently so I'm trying not to overreact but i also feel like it surely makes my top 10 all time, or at least lands in that ballpark. im a real sucker for a good slow burn, and my god man. i don't even know what to say.

visceral listening experience, i think this album is a masterpiece and is basically why i like music even if it's borderline unlistenable at times. i have not listened to revengeseekerz but i eagerly await it

as for music, it was a pretty dogshit year in my lane admittedly, and i did less branching out and more replacement with other forms of media.

i also played lots of multiplayer things I enjoyed. I think the standouts are Arc Raiders, 2xko, and TFT. nothing i feel so passionately about that i want to rant about it, but i had a good time with these and i have high hopes for more fun in the future

Honkai: Star Rail
yeah, i know it's embarrassing and it's a gacha, etc. this is one of the best live service games ive ever played and im really glad i stuck it out through the bad opening of amphoreus to see the payoff. still has definite issues but call it a guilty pleasure

this is my runner up for the year. probably something around an 8.5 or 8.75 for me if I had to give it a number. 9 if everyone stopped talking about it immediately but i know i won't be that lucky with tga coming up

what im getting at is that it's not a slam dunk experience and it won't be great for everyone, but i feel that the sincerity and ambition of its ideas will keep it in my head for quite some time. the endings of every chapter are just unforgettable, beautiful, poignant; it's true art

there are pacing issues abound because of how they structured this thing. there are tone issues, and especially i personally felt a lot of "this is not the tone i wanted" issues which are distinct from the actual tonal clashes. the game is also very heteronormative, intentionally.

my take on the game is that it's a good game. it's flawed and far from perfect, but also very ambitious and memorable. it's an art game that want too badly to be viewed as an art game, and at considerable expense to the player experience. the gameplay is also mid and a bit of a slog oftentimes.

people also like to act like it's a bad game because it's fun to dunk on things that weirdos have co-opted. im all for dunking on weirdos but we are just reaching levels of disingenuous that really just crosses way too many lines for me to be comfortable with personally
