I think it’s obvious. There are lots of people you stare at but only one you stare into, like you’re trying to learn them, to commit them to memory. It’s the difference between looking and seeing; one you do with your eyes, the other with your soul.

The first word you taught me in your language was ‘good morning’ because you said that’s what you wanted to hear every day. It meant I had stayed.
