Calligrapher, Cryptographer, Medieval-curious, Puzzler, Gamer, IT guy. Pronouns: He/Him, but not fussy.
I was wandering around the @escapeartists.net site, and I noticed a few things - the forums look abandoned (can't register a new account, and no recent traffic) and the banner has outdated links to social media accounts.

Need any help?

This makes me sad. Maybe I should send more mail.... Yeah... I should send more mail.

(Danmark's national postal service ending letter mail delivery this year. And those iconic mailboxes! From now on letters only by private carriers)

Many years ago (so many) I did up this photoshop of my nephew (and his hype-gal).

Happy Birthday, Len, from Heather and myself!

Happy Pi Day, everyone.

I hope you all find, as I have, that love is quite like pi. Endless, irrational, and deeply important.

Today's Google Doodle was a delightful little card game. My pagan friends especially may enjoy it.

Our flag isn't that old. It was inaugurated on this date in 1965. I'm still proud to see it, though that got eroded a little by the radical right trying to repurpose it as their personal symbol.

But we do still stand on guard.

Wow, Google turned 26 last fall. I hadn't noticed. That means Google has now been around for half my life. But only about half. I feel like that gives me an odd perspective compared to many peers and colleagues.

Excited to announce that I'm starting a new position this month at TD! I'm leaving the exciting world of ITSM consulting behind me to dig deep into data analysis and applying my consulting skills to helping internal business partners solve their reporting needs.

I was wondering this morning... In fantasy literature and film, the dwarf has a typically Scottish stereotype and accent. Why?

Cornish would have made a lot more cultural sense, given that group's historical contributions to mining across the globe.

Just saw the term 'sack barrow' to refer to what I normally call a 'hand truck'. I really like how that trips off the tongue. Anyhow, the device itself goes back to the Industrial revolution or possibly slightly earlier, and the design hasn't changed much. Fun to see things so fit-to-purpose!

I'll be presenting at KWHS this coming weekend, "Harmonious Balance or Jarring Juxtaposition: Integrating multiple sources as a Scribe". Saturday, 8:30PM Eastern time.

Talking about how to pull from multiple places without causing too much of a visual stir. With examples from my own history!

I had to take a year off because of some dental work but just as my deferment drew to a close I got a call about someone with a match for my platelets ...

Good luck, stranger!

Folks, I'm shocked. "Just deserts" doesn't have a double-s.

I blame the dessert restaurant chain that existed in Toronto in my late teens and early twenties, made unfortunately famous by a shooting. But yeah, I've been misspelling this for ages.

Colleagues asked me about the difference between US and Canadian Thanksgiving, apart from dates.

My glib answer involved sweet potatoes & marshmallows, but it really is deeper. We Canadians get together with family, but I'm pretty sure really not as compulsorily as folks in the US do.

Thoughts?

Any players of Enshrouded, I've just recently brought a cat back to the homestead. Doesn't seem to matter how much food I give her, the bowl is empty on my return.

Is there a mechanic, or is that just a sublime cat joke?

Blocking Nazis, trolls, and fascists doesn’t make it an “echo chamber.” People need to stop gaslighting us into thinking we have to listen to Nazis and debate trolls in order to be informed.

Out for lunch with Neil, the place was relatively packed with ebullient Swifties. The playlist was predictably on-message. One offered me a friendship bracelet. 🙂

Enjoy the concert!

Yeah... Albini was in the background of a LOT of my music during his career. I'm only just learning how much actually.
If you're outside a particular Gen X bubble and don't quite get the outpouring for Steve Albini today, understand that we're mourning the producer who wrote this to Nirvana in November 1992 when he was being pitched to produce IN UTERO. news.lettersofnote.com/p/nirvana
