I think similar to Elphaba the sentiment is partially true. Her kindness is genuine and heroic acts earnest but it's definitely in part motivated by her yearning for approval and adoration. Her strong love of and devotion to Daein is rooted in how its people make her feel wanted

(RD spoilers) Soren is a really interesting character because his arc definitely could have gone "he heals completely and makes friends with everyone and then becomes King of Daein" but instead it's so... subdued? Dare I say realistic

I finished RD pretty recently. My Ikesoren journey went from "Yeah I can see why people ship them" (POR A support) to "Wow I cannot think of any other way to interpret their relationship" (RD secret base convo)
