If someone writes off enough on their taxes that they get money back - isn't that turning a profit? Or even writing off FC expenses to reduce their tax load from somewhere else is kind of turning a profit on the club?

I do hope it works for him - but I kinda feel that if the lack of playing time he got at Pacific last year weren't the tipping point then this is the one that puts him in the lifetime backup keeper position.

Frei probably signed to transition to their #2 as Thomas got more and more time with them last year and is their heir apparent at #1.

My assumption (am a whitecaps fan . . . ) is that for discretionary spending the owner(s) sign off on each contract - in effect holding final say on that part of roster building.

You are assuming that success=position in table. I think probably that for many of the owners position in table really only matters as a stepping stone to increasing profit.

A) It's Allen Chapman B) Go watch last Saturday's Van v Dallas game - that one game will change your mind.

I'll grant though that your bsky.app/profile/did:... is a fair comparison

I think you actually realize that when sports books make the lines the goal is not to accurately predict the future, it is to guide betting patterns in order to maximize profit and minimize risk. So - just to be clear you are using a different metric for success than those experts use.

SixFive is a company based in Vancouver that has owners based in BC and Europe, that seeks funds from Canada and Europe, that is beholden to making a return on investment to the Canadian and European investors.

I understand your league ownership point - but CPL is Canadian by convenience, if that group of owners thought going American would line their pockets it would happen in a flash.
September 19, 2025 at 4:14 AM
the owners of Vancouver FC (Six Five sports) describe them selves as - We are a diversified global football investment fund. They are not anymore Canadian than Kerfoot's group.

Concacaf has released an image that implies the Can Champ spot would not go to a CPL team if an MLS team does not win the tournament

It's also dependent on the device you are watching the stream on - it has to be an apple device (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV)

Ive heard the agreement for him to return was moved out to January after Veselinovic was injured.
August 20, 2025 at 4:57 AM
It's not just LAFC and VWFC, nor is it just Western Conference teams - in the social media posts about this between the weekend and today New England has been pointed out specifically as an org that has issues with him.
August 13, 2025 at 12:27 AM
Have either Adekugbe or Veselinovic been placed on the season ending injury list?

* Assuming qualification rules for CCC2026 are the same as CCC2025, which, you know, this is Concacaf we're talking about

Caps are not playing in Leagues cup this year.

He went to the change room immediately after he was subbed off - any idea if he was hurt and if so how serious?
June 9, 2025 at 5:41 AM
Check the pick #20 set on Badwal. Badwal wasn't going to get to the ball, but he would have been closer without the hands on his chest. Its a play you applaud if your team does it but it does contribute to how open Carrasquilla was.

Attendance figures in MLS have always been seats sold, not bodies at the game. MLS (and most if not all other leagues) care about revenue and seats sold is the best indicator of that.
March 29, 2025 at 9:04 PM
They play Thurs, Sun, Thurs, Sun, Wed, Sat, Wed, Sat (that is 23 days right - I did the math right?)
March 4, 2025 at 10:36 PM
It's not a contest but Whitecaps are in the middle of 8 games in 23 days - this Champions cup scheduling is a bear
March 4, 2025 at 10:27 PM
Whitecaps - Bovalina was listed as a Special Discovery Player last year and is not listed that way in yesterday's release. Also last year a SDP needed to be on the senior roster, this year Bovalina is on the supplemental roster, so the rules may have changed.

Makes the number of teams chasing LA G = 28 and therefore Sofascore is right 🤷
