@margaret.bsky.social hey, I just finished listening to the first two hours of the ICHH compilation for the week. You do a great job of describing the planning process which is exactly my passion. Is there any way I can pass along extra resources towards the process?

Today these fireworks are inescapable. Freedom from—from what? What did America shed in 1776/1779 that we are not experiencing in harsher forms today?

What is it that we are celebrating tonight?

Your regular reminder, with a twist: FEMA is being crippled after this hurricane season but they’ve done a lot of great work to give guidance on disaster preparation. Check their site, and archive it for your community.

Don’t suspect even for a moment that I dream of being another Wallenberg, or even that his tactics could work on a broad scale today like they did in his time, but it is hard to look at today and look at what he did and NOT think “man, someone could really fuck with these gears.”

I‘ve struggled for years with keeping thoughts straight in my head, and now I’m at risk for requesting medication for it.

My thoughts now, given my place, are:

Do I flee with my family?

Or do I Raoul Wallenberg?

For a while I thought of a move to France as a dream, as a beautiful backup plan.
Today it has become a necessity. America has truly embraced the worst parts of itself. There is no coming back from this.
We have become a full oligarchy.

Now that I’m older and more informed, I know that America has had its issues since long before I was born, but these 100 days seem incredibly unique in this time period.

Always told myself that if America righted itself I would stay here. Now… it seems like there is no way to come back.

Having a despair day. Seeing disasters happen and not getting a request for support is a new thing for me. Hurricane season is approaching rapidly. People are going to need help. Will they let us help?

Je vais voyager a nouvelle-caledonie le mois prochaine. Que dois-je faire la?

At risk of screaming into the void, I once again urge everyone to check out FEMA’s website, while it lasts, to ensure your household’s emergency kit is prepared. This is a govt that you cannot guarantee will come to your aid in the worst case scenario.

All of the US/Ukraine/Russia goings-on for today have been baffling. This is a legitimately dangerous time worldwide. If the USA continues to not just align but cozy up to Putin at this speed and degree, we are a lot closer to danger than I thought.

Je suis en train d’apprends le francais. Est-ce qu’il y a besoin de manageur des urgences en France? Je souhaite a habiter a Nimes… apres je sais plus de la langue.

I know that my posts have sounded very doomer, but I implore you to check FEMA’s website about household readiness for disasters, especially if you live in a red or poor state. I’m still processing the amount of safety nets that are currently and shortly will be withdrawn.

To summarize some fun developments: the CFPB homepage is literally an IMAGE saying 404 Page not found. The rest of the links work. You can even submit a report. The DOGE website had a page saying “These “experts” left their database open” and these guys plugged in hard drives to OPM servers. Uh oh.

Last self-post for the day (today sucked)

I’ve never really embraced the anonymity available in some social media and I feel like the ability to simply be more honest with myself and others behind this curtain is a lovely feeling.

It scares me that some can find that outlet and become a Nazi.

Is anyone else working on learning a new language? I strongly suggest Mango app (free with a library card) and Pimsleur (lots of which is for download on Archive.org). These two are especially useful if you have a long commute or long bits of quiet time in any fashion.

Currently writing a paper on conspiracy theories in emergency management and its evolution through history. Earliest I can find is the Burning of Rome, where Nero scapegoated and murdered nearly 1000 Christians, blaming them for the fire. Anyone know of anything earlier than that?

Good downloads:
“Where There Are No Doctors”
Any combat first-aid manual
The entirety of Wikipedia (I think around 10GB total, and there are readers you can download to parse it more easily
Pimsleur language lessons on archive.org
Never hurts to learn and grow. Use what you have available.

Does your household have a place to meet outside the house in the case of a fire? How about outside of your neighborhood in the case of inaccessibility?

Now is a great time to review your family’s emergency plans as the administration strips FEMA funding from blue cities. #CERT #FEMA
February 13, 2025 at 5:28 AM
Elon Musk just stole $80 million in congressionally-approved FEMA funding from New York City. These funds were meant for shelter and services, some of the core building blocks of any locality’s emergency management. This is illegal, unconstitutional, and dangerous.

Gonna probably keep posting about this for the time being. Things are dark, and it’s not going to be great, but please reach out to safe members of your community. Improve household/community resilience. Look to the helpers and seek those you can help. Brush up on first aid. Be ready to be a helper
February 12, 2025 at 4:27 AM
The president has floated dissolving #FEMA saying that disaster management should be left to the states. IT ALREADY IS. The Stafford Act specifically outlines that a disaster starts and ends locally, and that FEMA only gets involved when a locality and then a state is overwhelmed.

Help prepare your family and community for disasters in case you are without help from authorities. Check out your local CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program—it’s free, and it’s amazing. I’ve downloaded their instructor and student guide in case it goes dark. www.fema.gov/emergency-ma...

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.

If “or” can be inclusive, should we find a new running English-language joke or continue this one underground when it’s banned for being too DEI?

@margaret.bsky.social I’m really glad to have found your work! I wasn’t so sure about CPWDCS when I first started listening but you really found your groove within the first two episodes. Thank you for what you do!
