It is indeed garbage. It also drives traffic to their web site.

I'm sorry, but I don't know how you could begin to guess at what I think about what's happening in those meetings.

I asked for your opinion on a specific point because I was interested in your opinion about it, not because I'm looking to start a fight with you.

Take care, Max.

On what evidence do you base that conclusion?

As well, @maxfawcett.bsky.social , I'd love to see a column from you arising from this comment from Carney. He sure does seem to be happy with Trump removing Maduro.

Mr Carney disagrees.

I'm intrigued: wouldn't adding supply decrease prices?
January 6, 2026 at 7:42 PM
The worrying thing is that Carney seems like he's open to putting government money into O&G infrastructure.

I love that they used a photo of the Peace Bridge.

Maybe @druhfarrell.bsky.social would get a chuckle out of that too. You won, Druh. Everyone officially loves the Peace Bridge now.

Is it possible that, as Venezuela's oil exports were mainly bought by China, USA's actions in Venezuela today weaken the petroyuan?

If so, would that weakening be material?
January 4, 2026 at 3:13 AM
And Pierre Poilievre is cheering him on.

Is there a statement from Danielle Smith yet about how Alberta is different and Trump would never attack us because Trump is a man of principle and he invaded Venezuela from the moral high ground?
January 3, 2026 at 6:49 PM
I said it when Trump was first elected: for all the racists in USA rant against Latin America, they decided to elect their very own caudillo.

The invisible hand of the Chinese Communist Party?

Or of Energiewende? Or the Inflation Reduction Act?

There’s no such thing as a free market.

This kind of problem is endemic throughout our society. It happens with transportation policy, with natural resource development, health, etc.

One party has the levers but not the responsibility for the outcome, and vice versa. The solution is for one party to have both.

It doesn't bode well for the Canadian government actually requiring a $130/t effective price from Alberta on a meaningful timeline, coming out of the MOU.

I can't tell if the Ford news is good or bad overall. It's another step in the NA auto industry being less competitive globally. What does that mean for their lobbying power, and consequently for transportation, urban planning, and industrial development policy here? It could be an overall benefit.

Are there losses between supply and demand? Ie, between the 108 mbpd and the 103.9 mbpd?
December 17, 2025 at 12:11 AM
I haven't seen any indication from the UCP that they are governing for anyone other than their base.
December 10, 2025 at 9:22 PM
That hasn't entered my thought process at all here (and if it were, I assure you my estimation is extremely low!).

My thought is that her base will not be satisfied by any deal, no matter how clever, because they don't want to be. This grievance is part of their core identity.
December 10, 2025 at 4:20 PM
I admire your optimism in human nature, and I used to share it more than I do now, but I think you're grossly overestimating certain people's ability to be reasonable.

Jason Kenney was right about the asylum. Not even Smith can placate her hardcore base, and they're all she has.

It depends on what you mean by viable. The federal government can always just pay for it.

(I do not advocate that the federal government pay for it.)

What included Pathways members?

Gotcha.

I appreciate your replies.
