I can't take these folks seriously, I'm sorry. I know they have a lot of power and seeing this country backslide is so disturbing but they're all dipshits, man. I can't respect a dipshit.

I don't know anything about this movie but every time I'm in Los Angeles there's one movie that is PLASTERED on every sign, wall, bus stop, you name it, and this time this was it. The movie I've seen get the biggest such treatment was "Hobbs and Shaw" in 2019, but this rivals it.

I dunno. I grew up in West Virginia and I drive through the Adirondacks a couple of times a year to get to Vermont and I feel like I'm back home.

There will always be quislings and whitewashing and consent-manufacturing and other bullshit in the national media, but am I wrong to be sensing a shift this week in how all of this is being covered? Things seem to be getting more pointed and reality is not being as eagerly denied. I dunno.

Yeah, when I drive up to Burlington, Vermont to visit my daughter I go through the Adirondacks and it's nothing but rebel flags and Trump signs.

It is important to remember that, for all of his skills, all of his accomplishments, all of his wealth, and all of his fame, LeBron James is first and foremost an Ohioan, and there are some disabilities that even the greatest of us cannot overcome.

lebron might go down as the least interesting public figure of our lives. i can't tell if he's intentionally uninteresting or if it just comes naturally, but man that guy is boring.

That's for planing/economics and stuff, like the Appalachian Regional Commission.
craigcalcaterra.bsky.social
This is pretty interesting, and I think it does a good job of segmenting the Midwest. But I also think that making a distinction between "Northern Appalachia" and "Upstate" is just a sop to New York people who don't want to admit that a big part of their state is basically Appalachia.
williamhazen.bsky.social
This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.
Cultural Regions of the US

Haha, guessing that's a big reason for the upgrades.

I HATE that I have laud Rob Manfred for doing an unequivocally good thing.

Was talking to someone from another state yesterday who couldn’t believe it but yes, Ohio law not only requires public school buses to transport kids to private schools, it actually *prioritizes* public bussing for private school students over public school students. Total insanity.

Straight to jail:

- Stephen Miller
- Hegseth
- Noem
- Homan
- Bondi

Just for these ICE attacks, just for starters. Plenty more should follow.

Prosecuting Trump - if he doesn’t croak in office - is harder thanks to fascist SCOTUS (most of whom should be impeached). But state courts can do it.

A three and a half hour game in the pitch clock era. Woof.

Yeah. Like, back in the indie bloggy days I'd get polite "please take that photo down" notices from Reuters or Getty or AP, I'd honor them, and we'd all play nice. At NBC it was VERY strict license only. I priced licenses and they're a LOT. Luckily I don't use a lot of photos. Like one a day.

I usually just screencap videos, which ain't exactly kosher, but since I'm behind a paywall and it doesn't really travel far I tend to go with the forgiveness > permission approach.

Is that not American English past tense for leap too? Sounds right?
craigcalcaterra.bsky.social
I think I've done that bit before actually
craigcalcaterra.bsky.social
That's gonna be down in the M's-Tigers recap
craigcalcaterra.bsky.social
Oh, wait, I can still use the pic in the body of the recap by saying "Toronto . . . leapt out to a 6-1 lead" while putting a Judge pic at the top.

And that, folks, is how the newsletter sausage is made.

I'm sure the answer to this mystery is in an 88 year-old computer file.
