As regards the peerages It seems that the Palace is relying on this provision of the Royal Warrant that establishes the Roll of the Peerage... The BBC are saying that removal from the roll of the peerage means that it cannot be used formally. Hmm... www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/RoyalWarrant...

Yesterday, I chatted to @ruthfox.bsky.social and @darcyxtip.bsky.social of the @hansardsociety.bsky.social about what Parliament could do about Prince Andrew... you can listen to the Podcast at this link... pod.link/1714627828/e...

“Many Canadians are feeling anxious and worried about the drastically changing world around them.”
“Canadians can give themselves far more than any foreign power on any continent can ever take away.”

This is one speech from the King that doesn't take much decoding.

The rules in “penalty competitions” (as the great Barry Davies used to call them) are different. The kicker can only touch the ball once. www.footballrules.com/game-events/...

I appear in this discussing about Prince Andrew's finances... what we know, what we don't know, and the implications for the monarchy. It's on Channel 5, tomorrow at 9:30pm.

This was my Mum’s photo of when I got my PhD. I don’t think that’s even me in the photo.

news.sky.com/story/amp/ma... I do wish the photographs used to illustrate the Marble Arch M&S also showed the other sides… it’s not even the most architecturally important M&S on Oxford Street.

5/ Some reading this might think, 'what about the King and the environment?' Indeed, but in a sense, this makes my argument for me. It's an underlying policy issue and the King does not get into specifics as such (i.e. he hasn't said everyone should get a heat pump).

4/ Once the riots subside, you might expect members of the Royal Family to visit places affected and perhaps to see them more in multicultural settings. We've perhaps already seen this a little more in this reign (not that Elizabeth II didn't do engagements like this).

The Times suggests that the gov is considering long-term fixed mortgages, with lower (or no?) deposits, which, for many, is the biggest obstacle to buying a home.

They promised this in their 2019 manifesto, only to do nothing. Perhaps if they had, they might be higher in the polls amongst renters?

2/ If we are going to talk about fashion, I thought it was notable that the King has followed his mother and deliberately wore suit that contrasted to everyone else (especially the politicians present). It’s not a great photo, but you get a sense of my point…

1/ It’s worth remembering that the King’s father was Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark… And for decades he was concerned about the environment and biodiversity.

Hello Everyone! As the other place declines, hopefully I’ll get going on here discussing all things monarchy, parliament, and more generally constitutional. May occasionally divert into Sports Law.

Thanks for the follows already, and to @legalmusings.bsky.social for the invite code!
