I think he had a reputation as a bit of a dinosaur when he left the Pats, hence the multiple appearances on light-hearted programmes to show he can, in fact, smile. I think the owners were wary of him wanting a lot of control. They'll come running soon.

It's very much played over here (60 rec teams, 80 university teams), just not publicised very well. There is a 24 hour NFL channel, and 3 CFB games a week too. Frankly, these 'guides' are insulting when quite a number of us could explain the intricacies of Bracket coverage better than a native.
