Grades are fake and stupid and they shouldn't influence anything material in anyone's life but feedback is actually valuable and should be given and recieved in a manner than actually encourages growth.

*That is, trying to persecute and destroy a trans academic at all costs.

Oh awesome! I figured the Stanley works for a lot of the front range. And yeah, in Seattle now but from a tiny town near Telluride originally.

and how effective they can be in ensnaring people with all sorts of ideological biases. United only, it seems, in a steadfast refusal to consider the actual history and experiences of black people in america.

It is all, of course, completely ridiculous and as you rightly point out, completely ignores the contemporary sources and virulent racism that actually existed. But it's interesting (and horrifying) to me how many different flavors of lost causers exist

that "enslaved" people in factories. So they somehow managed to completely delude themselves and conveniently "forget" or overlook chattel slavery since yankees, to them, represented a urbanist, technological dystopia.

That really is fascinating. I am continuously amazed at how many vehicles for racism exist in the US. Part of what those family members liked about the south is that they thought it was an agrarian paradise in philosophical opposition to the capitalist and aggressive north

lol, exactly. These people weren't actually dumb or necessarily ignorant but they loved this explanation because it really seemed like a deeper-than-surface-level analysis that only someone who "really understands history" could arrive at (nevermind that *all* the primary sources say otherwise)

Deflecting with northern racism is 100% part of the playbook of lost causers. I say this as someone who grew up in a place that was not that south that had family that believed in the "lost cause" of the south and would repeat how the north was just as racist, it was "economics" that caused the war

But that doesn't mean that writers/showrunners/artists should cut corners on story telling to fit in more "exciting" plot points. Because what makes a plot point exciting if I don't care about the characters or the world??

Rather than allowing a show to breathe or explore character personalities. Especially when the full season isn't over you don't know yet if those slower scenes actually have more relevance to the overall story!! I can concede that it sucks that TV shows aren't 20+ episodes per season anymore.

The lepidopterist contingent is now calling for blood. Although the more moderate silkworm researchers are urging dialogue, Dr. Cornelius “the cecropia gauntlet” Filburton is publicly calling for the release of Tineola pheromone.
