I love Waxman’s music & Gerhardt’s film music series. In the early CD days in the ‘80s, the original LPs were rereleased on CD, some with additional previously unreleased tracks. This is the expanded Waxman disc. I wish that the box set used the expanded content instead of only the LP tracks.

Excellent choice.

“Fahrenheit 451” is my Nbr. 1. With “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” and “Beneath the 12 Mile Reef” coming in close behind.

The Jedermann score is a hidden gem. Some imaginative music here. The lengthy track 12, Largo-sempre misterioso is one of the most probing, introspective, and mysterious pieces that Sibelius ever penned.

His music is excellent. And his Bond scores are still the gold standard IMO. But there is also much great material in his non-Bond scores. I think there is some flavor of Sibelius in his music.

If you haven’t heard it, try Bernard Herrmann’s recording of “The Planets”, originally released as one of Decca’s Phase 4 series. He uses unusually slow tempos throughout which brings out details one might not hear otherwise. It was recently re-released on the Quartet label.

I wish we had record/CD stores like this in the US. They’ve been gone from here for years.

I have your Haitink on CD. Two other favorites are Von Karajan with the BPO and Bernstein with the Israel Philharmonic. Both with Christa Ludwig and Rene Kollo.

The “Special Edition” release of the “Return of the Jedi” score is the essential one. This is 2 CDs with all of the music from the movie plus additional material. Packaged in a 32 page slipcased book of liner notes. Also companion sets for “New Hope” and “Empire Strikes Back”.

That’s a good one. And not often mentioned.

One of my favorite Bax symphonies. Nothing weak about it at all.

One of my favorite Bax symphonies. I have the Thomson, Handley, Barbirolli, and Lloyd-Jones recordings.
