Depending where you are, you may be able to get a used one for a fraction of that. Join weaver’s groups and fiber arts groups on social media and reach out to your local weaver’s guild. It may take a few weeks, but people downsize, quit hobbies and offer looms for cheap or even free.

Linen is so underrated, especially for scarves! My favorite one is a handwoven double weave breezy linen wrap

Not at all inferior! Has a lot going for it that a floor loom doesn’t, like portable, inexpensive, can be DIY-ed, adjustable.

Hard to imagine but there was a time, not even that long ago, when looms were almost as common as sewing machines in homes
