Born and raised in the Caribbean (Trinidad & Tobago). All our Christmas trees are plastic. I was a full pre-teen before I understood why people on TV would "cut down" a Christmas Tree.
And we spray fake frost on our windows because even at night it rarely drops below 25°C!
