A new paper from @rlwjones.bsky.social has just been published about coverage of county cricket, based on interviews with current journalists & content producers.

Richard first presented this at our conference in Feb so it's great to see it out in the world!

Great to see the BBC covering Network member Dr Andrew Scattergood’s recent report into state school cricket in the north of England.

A very important area of research 👏 🏏

Thanks so much to @jeremylonsdale.bsky.social for a lovely article in @ccmatters.bsky.social about the Cricket Research Network 😊

For a game that is actually quite simple, there is an awful lot of complexity today around how cricket is played and organised. That was how I felt as I left the second conference organised by the Cricket Research Network, held at the ECB's Performance Centre at Loughborough University earlier this year. Player mental health, corruption and illegal betting, human rights and equality, as well as the governance of the game were just some of the always interesting, and sometimes controversial, topics discussed at the one-day event, attended by a broad mix of academics, students and others involved and interested in cricket.

We had a great meeting today to discuss the 25/26 academic year. We’re planning:

🏏 A panel discussion on the Men’s Ashes
🏏 An event focused on cricket in India
🏏 A critical discussion on the latest cricket books
🏏 And of course our next conference in Feb 2026!

AskGamblers have published their 2024 complaints review and the 4 biggest offenders are all major sponsors of sport, particularly football and cricket. Does sport read these things? Do they even care? @josimarfootball.bsky.social @cricketacademic.bsky.social

Ah, I see it’s a screenshot from the ECB’s South Asian Action Plan. There was no gender breakdown in those numbers, was there? And it’s now 6 years old. I’m not aware of a current, accurate measurement of levels of recreational participation by South Asian women.
cricketacademic.bsky.social
Not really sure what you are asking. Can you clarify? There is certainly a huge knowledge gap between men’s cricket and women’s cricket.
cricketacademic.bsky.social
Yes, it was a comparison to the general population. “How many are interested” would be extremely difficult - likely impossible - to measure accurately, and wouldn’t be a typical measure used by researchers.

It was encouraging to hear how ongoing academic research is being integrated with the PCA’s mental health programmes.
The emphasis in the latter on mental wellbeing (prevention before diagnosis & treatment) echoes the work of @openingupcricket.bsky.social
