To be fair, the ones that went were all popular titles so you may be onto something there!

To those who steal from publishers at conferences, please image that you are an author, looking for your book on display. How would you feel if one of your peers had nicked it, denying other delegates the chance to see your work? The books are for sale, usually with a discount. Don’t steal books.

In my part of the UK, they’d call it cob lobbing.

I've been looking back at my first conference reports & want to give a shout out to some of those stars, who helped curb my imposter syndrome: Rob Canton, Fergus McNeill, Joanna Shapland, Steve Farrall, Nathan Hall, Stephan Parmentier, Sandra Walklate, Mike McGuire, Layla Skinns, Rob White. Cheers!

Looking back, I remain eternally grateful to some of those people I met in the first few months of my Criminology career, who were so welcoming and supportive as I started in an area I knew very little about, many of whom I am still working with today.

I spent the first term of the job visiting various universities & conferences and this would continue for the next few years. I was like a publishing sponge, digesting thousands of ideas in the the hope they would become books. Many did, I often spare a thought for those that did not.

This summer is my 15th anniversary of working in the Criminology arena as an editor. Back in 2010, I was preparing for my first ESC conference in Liege. Fast-forward to today, and I am doing the same for Athens. I was so fresh-faced back then, with so much to learn and to prove.

I think one of our first conversations was about the doggone Girl is Mine. A 25 year obsession and I’m still mulling it over.

MJ then says, “that’s not what I heard.” They’re essentially gaslighting each other.
