The Urge by Carl Erik Fisher: a good history of how we think about addictions, with an interesting debate on the disease concept.

The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer by Jennifer Lynch: this is UNBELIEVABLY good for a TV show tie in novel. If you read this it makes Fire Walk With Me work even better. Jennifer Lynch shoulda wrote more books

despite the incredible cover art and concept, the real takeaway from this album for me is the song The Only Way where Lake blames god for letting the holocaust happen

Dark Half by Stephen King: I see why this one is not well-remembered among his oeuvre lol. Like 50% of the book is people talking about something that happened in the first chapter when you as the reader already know what's going on.

Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte: re-read, blitzed through it in 2 days because it's so good. Novel of the year 2024

NSFW by Isabel Kaplan: I hate to be mean but this is the most transparent fantasy of moral righteousness I've ever read in my life lol. The first person to ever think of feminist media criticism in the TV industry lectures everyone she meets about it.

Gerhard Klann??? Is real life a postwar marvel comic?

Die My Love by Ariana Harwicz: while I think the movie's choice to put this in the American South is better than it's setting in the French countryside, the prose here is so good. Love a style novel

On the Calculation of Volume pt 1 by Solvej Balle: if I had known these were time loop books I'd have read them sooner! Interesting paradoxical thing where it's about the ways our lives repeat AND don't repeat
