From what I've read (admittedly I only read this today and haven't fact checked) she's fairly pro-US, pro-Israel, and anti-socialist - and Trump championed her earlier in the year. Could this be, in part, a quiet concession to him? (I mean he'll still probably flip out)

If the secret material existed surely they could just root out the offenders, prosecute them, and/or ban them from the organisation? If the stated aims of an organisation are legal, and the majority of members are faithful to those stated aims, proscription seems untenable

It's alarming how fast we have moved from "people can identify however they wish, we just want to protect women" to "the existence of trans people is an extremist ideology"
cristencaine.bsky.social
"Diverse voices can counter it" no they can't Grok, the platform is designed to drown them out, whatever their numbers. That's one of many reasons why there is no merit to the argument that progressives, journalists, or public bodies should stay on Twitter/X

"The last three years have seen the de facto legalisation of racial abuse in online space. Elon Musk has turned Twitter/X into one of the most powerful amplifiers of racism we have ever seen"

Yes, I'm sure they haven't been advertising it - or dozens of similar projects - thus far, which raises the interesting question, what's the strategic purpose of making an announcement?

Germany knows: "As we say in Germany, if there's a Nazi at the table and 10 other people sitting there talking to him, you've got a table with 11 Nazis."

They're already on it. Of course.

To put it another way, shootings are almost exclusively a right-wing problem. But there are regular attempts in the media to associate such political violence with the left, a phenomenon which the piece above is contributing to
cristencaine.bsky.social
You've misunderstood what I'm saying. My point was not about her own political affiliation, but the fact that right wingers overwhelmingly agree with her publicly stated views. Therefore if any shooter is rw, as most are, they are unlikely to be targetting JKR next
cristencaine.bsky.social
Plus there's every possibility that the person who "got" Charlie Kirk is the kind of person who aligns with JKR's views, as the person who tried to "get" Trump likely was. This constant attempt to frame a mostly right-wing problem as symptomatic of "the intolerant left" is maddening

Absolutely love Americans thinking that cunt is a nuclear tier insult which will naturally devastate a British person, have they never heard us talk

When I was growing up we had some friends from the wealthiest family we knew, big house, etc. I learned that when they went to private school (which none of the rest of us did), they were known as "the paupers"
Reminds me of Succession's "$5m will make you the poorest rich person in America" bit

Authoritarianism: your record company's PR team saying "this might upset your fans"

Not authoritarianism: governments on both sides of the Atlantic shutting down access to healthcare, faciliities, and the freedom to openly exist, of a vulnerable minority group

Yeah, I had a crack at HP relatively late in life, and considering its popularity I was surprised at how poorly written it is. Fantastic world creator, big imagination and keeps the stakes high. But a mediocre writer of prose, and seemingly not a deep thinker, which tracks with... everything
cristencaine.bsky.social
It's the opposite. Trans folk are losing rights thanks to the hurty feelings of a bunch of old MAGAs, Tories, and fundamentalist Christians plus the useful idiots they've managed to convince "this is feminism, which we famously love. You can tell it's good because all right-wingers support it"
cristencaine.bsky.social
That may be, but the law is currently being interpreted very much on feelings and vibes instead of facts. Never mind, eg, whether trans people pose any actual risk to cisgender folk, if those who hold the power *feel* like they do, the law is interpreted that way. And so on, ad nauseum
cristencaine.bsky.social
I've slowly (naively, I supposed) come to realise that a lot of people (eg "progressive" tech CEOs) that said they didn't want Trump, actually did want Trump, because the left (even the soft American left) poses too much risk to a world that actually works quite well for them thank you very much
cristencaine.bsky.social
Agree. I think Bluesky is all about curating your feed, and that's what people are not used to doing, they're used to being algorithm-fed. But there are dozens of fantastic accounts, across the world, that mean your Bsky feed never needs be empty. You just have to take the time to set it up
cristencaine.bsky.social
They don't. I picked a topic that used to come up in a lot of debates, which was how we might prevent cisgender male attackers co-opting trans identities to access women's prisons. There are a number of sensible answers to that, but I soon learned they are uninterested in sensible answers

I hope you're right but in 2024 they came second in a shockingly large number of seats, which did indeed reflect an unprecedented voting pattern. (Happy to be corrected but I don't think any >4th party has ever performed that well across the UK.) That would make a huge swing
more plausible.
