Happy New Year to all researchers who continue to believe that reading and thinking (and that writing is itself a process of thinking things through) are vital to critical analysis!

Given the way that they are founded on the theft of intellectual property, commandeer public water resources and contribute to climate collapse, we do not think that there is an ethical way to use AI 'tools'. I will continue to reject work that uses them.

In response to a recent rejection, an author wrote 'The use of AI is out of question. These days if journals insist that authors should not use AI, they will go bankrupt'. I respectfully disagree.
